My parents came up to visit the other weekend and took me and my boyfriend out for dinner and they let me pick where. I wanted to go somewhere new and of course when I spotted gluten free fish and chips I knew it had to be St Andrews Restaurant in Portobello and oh boy they did not disappoint!
Although not all of the menu was clearly marked as to what was gluten free, the waiters were extremely helpful and talked me through what I could eat.
I ended up choosing the battered whitebait with a garlic mayo dip for starters and the fish and chips for mains. Both were absolutely gorgeous and you can tell that the fish is fresh. The batter was just how I remember “normal” batter to be and the chips were proper chip shop chips. To top it all off, they also have gluten free vinegar!! It is safe to say that I was an extremely happy girl that night!
Although the restaurant is not in central Edinburgh, it is well connected by bus with the 26 stopping right outside the restaurant and running approximately every 15 minutes. We went on a Saturday evening and it did get busy so I would recommend booking if you are planning to go at the weekend.
