Healthy Gluten Free Apple and Blackberry Oat Bars

I was planning on making my normal raspberry oat bars; however my local shop did not have any raspberries so I decided to experiment with blackberries and apple and oh boy am I glad I did! I still love my raspberry slices but these are a great change!


Ingredients (Makes 8)

  • 150g gluten free oats
  • 100g cooking apple
  • 50g blackberries
  • 80g golden syrup
  • 2 tablespoons of ground cinnamon
  • 1 banana
  • 1/2 teaspoon of bicarbonate soda
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract



  1. Mash the banana in the bowl until most of the lumps are out
  2. Add in the oats, cinnamon, vanilla, bicarbonate soda and 65g of the golden syrup and mix well until combined and the oats are fully coated in gooey deliciousness
  3. On the hob over a low heat, add the chopped apple and blackberries in a pan along with the remaining 15g of golden syrup
  4. Allow these to heat up and soften on the hob, stirring occasionally to prevent them burning
  5. Once softened mix in the apples and blackberries to the oat mixture
  6. Pour the mixture onto a lined baking tray and use a spatula to push down the mixture so that it is compact
  7. Place in a pre-heated oven at 180°C for 25
  8. Once ready remove from the oven and allow to cool for 10 minute before cutting it into bars and leaving to cool for a further 20 minutes



  • If you prefer your bars a little crispier then just leave them in the oven for an extra 5 minutes!
  • Don’t have any golden syrup? This can be substituted for 50g maple syrup instead (40g for the oats and 10g for the apple and blackberries)
